BALLYDOON: Floury texture, bred in Ayrshire 1931. Unique flavour,

good yields and a variety of cooking styles.

SECOND EARLY SEED POTATOES

BRITISH QUEENS: Balls of flour, unique flavour and dry.

ALDO: Second Early/Maincrop. Good dry floury potato,

new introduction to our varieties.

 

MAIN CROP SEED POTATOES

ARRAN VICTORY: One of the most floury potatoes available.

Blue, loose skin with white flesh. Perfect for roasting.

DUNBAR STANDARDS: Dry and floury when boiled. Excellent yield.

PENTLAND DELL: Good cropping with light skin and white flesh. Floury

(no deep eyes).

KERRIS PINKS: Perfect for heavy ground. Has an excellent taste.

Very floury traditional taste.

MARIS PIPER: One of the best all round main crop potatoes.

Excellent for making your own chips. Floury.

VEGETABLE SEEDS

We are seed specialists who are here to help you. If you have never grown vegetables before, (or for a long while), we can recommend a few easy items to start with. You do not need to start on a large area, you can start on a small plot or with some containers.

If you are a regular vegetable gardener or growing on a larger scale. We stock a variety of products for the vegetable plot or allotment.

BROAD BEANS

BROAD BEAN, BUNYARDS EXHIBITION: An old favourite amoungst growers, heavy cropping and reliable.

BROAD BEAN, WITKIEM MANITA: Heavy cropping bean which can be sown in autumn or spring/summer. Good flavour.

BROAD BEAN, GREEN WINDSOR: Heavy cropping and argueably the best tasting broadbean. But it is harder to find. It is the parent of many other varieties of broad bean.

BROAD BEAN, THE SUTTON (DWARF): The most popular of the dwarf varieties - it has received much praise. Can be sown spring, summer or late autumn.

 

DWARF FRENCH BEANS

DWARF FRENCH BEANS, TENDERGREEN: Stringless variety with medium to long pencil shaped pods. Early maturing & has excellent flavour. Ideal for freezing.

DWARF FRENCH BEANS, CANADIAN WONDER: Old established variety, producing very heavy crops of flat shaped pods.

 

RUNNER BEANS

RUNNER BEANS, ENORMA: Very heavy cropper producing long, smooth and slender pods. Ideal for freezing.

RUNNER BEANS, DESIREE: Stringless with white seeds and white flowers. Suitable for precessing & market. Good quality and length.

GARDEN PEAS

PEAS, GREENSHAFT: 60cm. Another popular 2nd early. The pointed pods are borne at the top of the plant. Resistant to mildew.

PEAS, ONWARD: 70cm. The most popular garden pea – Crops heavily and has good disease resistance. Sometimes classed as an early maincrop.

PEAS, EARLY ONWARD: 65cm. An early version of onward which matures 10 days earlier.

PEAS, METEOR: 35cm. Very dwarf variety suitable for exposed sites. Small yet well filled pods with a great flavour.

PEAS, OREGON SUGAR POD: 100cm. Tall mangetout type. Broad, flat pods. Pick when peas are just forming

PEAS, SUGAR DWARF SWEET GREEN: 65cm. Similar to the oregon sugar pod.

PEAS, DOUCE PROVENCE: 75cm. Early dwarf variety, well filled pods with 8-9 peas per pod. Can also be grown as a maincrop. Ideal replacement for feltham first.

VEGETABLE SEEDS
BEETROOT, BOLTARDY: Suitable for early sowing. Excellent quality, medium size roots, superb deep red colour, completely ringless.

 

BEETROOT, CRIMSON KING: Large round roots of excellent quality.

 

BORECOLE, DWARF GREEN CURLED: Extremely winter hardy strain. Deep green densely curled heads.
 
CABBAGE, GOLDEN ACRE: Ballhead type from early spring to summer use.

 

CABBAGE, GREYHOUND: Very early compact pointed hearts, can be grown close together.
 
CHRISTMAS DRUMHEAD: Supberb maincrop variety producing large solid heads of dark green colour. Sow late may for autumn cutting.
 
CARROT, CHANTENAY RED CORED: Broad shouldered half long pointed roots, super quality and colour.
 
CARROT, AUTUMN KING: Probably the finest main crop variety. Supberb colour, long heavy roots which keep for a long time.
 
CELERY, SOUP (RED) & SELF BLANCHING Varieties available.
 
LEEK, MUSSELBURGH: Best known maincrop variety. Large size and strong growing.
 
LEEK, GIANT WINTER: Excellent late variety with good length stems. Slow to bolt.
 
LETTUCE, SUZAN: Soft butterhead type with good compact heads. Quick maturity for early summer use.
 
LETTUCE, ICEBERG/SALADIN: The true variety. Large open hearted crisp leaves. Not the supermarket type.
 
ONION, WHITE LISBON: Finest quality strain of spring onions for use in salads. Long white stems which are slow to bolt.
 
PARSNIP, WHITE KING: Another new introduction developed at Kelvedon. Semi long uniform roots with supberb creamy white skin and flesh. Outstanding flavour.
 
PARSLEY, TRIPLED CURLED: Carefully produced seed. Very sturdy in growth with good strong stems and densely curled heads.
 
SWEDE, BEST OF ALL: Large growing roots of good shape and flavour. Very hardy.
 
GREEN MANURES: Field rye, crimson and white clover, lupin, mustard, winer tares, alfafa & fenugreek. Perfect for applying to ground to prevent the growth of weeds or dug in adding goodness back into the soil. Whether your ground is heavy or light, acid or alkaline we have a green manure for you.
